Ombre Style

Hello!

Who doesn't love a good ombre mani? I know I do. Today I am showing you a few shades of pink for a girly and fun look. One thing that I like to do when creating an ombre, is to use different finishes of polish. I think that it takes the look to another level of funkiness. So check out my pink ombre below!

For this ombre look I used: (pointer to pinky)
China Glaze - Ahoy
Zoya - Lara
Jessica - Flirtation
OPI - Play the Peonies

Do you like my pink ombre manicure? What about my use of different finishes? Yay? Nay?

My very first glitter gradient!

Hi there!

I have a 'first' post for you today - my first glitter gradient! After seeing this post by Lucy's Stash you could definitely say that I was motivated to try my hand at a glitter gradient. I mean - if you clicked that link, don't you want to try one now too?! She is so talented. Anyway, I grabbed two polishes and to work I went.

Not too shabby for my first attempt! I'm actually really digging this, and have about a zillion ideas in my head for other combos to try this out with.

For this look I used
China Glaze Champagne Kisses
OPI Casino Royale

What do you think about my glitter gradient? Have you ever tried this look? If you haven't, I encourage you to give it a try, you'll be surprised how easy it is! Video tutorial by Lucy's Stash here.

China Glaze Cirque du Soleil Collection Swatches & Review

Hi there!!

I have an exciting post for you today. China Glaze recently released a collection for the Cirque du Soleil World's Away Movie in 3D, and today I am showing you half of that collection! The entire collection is filled with bright cremes, shimmers and glitters that will take your breath away. In this half we have a few cremes, shimmers and one eye popping glitter. Let's get started!

Escaping Reality is a neon pink creme that dries matte. This is very bright! Formula actually wasn't terrible on this for how neon-y it is, it did take three coats for opacity, but it dried pretty quickly and leveled out nicely.

Def Defying is a bright lime green creme. This is three coats for full coverage, if I had been more careful I could have probably gotten away with two.

Igniting Love is a cherry red creme. This one is intense, and very pretty might I add. Formula was excellent, it went on perfectly in two coats.

Bend over Backwards is an orangey red metallic shimmer. This is pretty and formula was great, shown is two smooth coats. This is a nice choice if you don't already own something like it, no brushstrokes- woo!

Creative Fantasy is a bright purple jelly. I wanted to love this one, I really did! When I saw it in the bottle my eyes opened wide and my mouth dropped, I love purple. But the formula was not good, not good at all. It was watery and streaky and I could not get it to level out for the life of me. After three coats it is still somewhat patchy and you can see VNL. Thought I'm not loving this on it's own, I'm thinking it will be fun for layering / sandwiching!

Water You Waiting For is a gorgeous bright blue, turquoise and green different sized glitters in a sheer blue base. This one is by far my favorite, I saved the best for last! This is insanely pretty and so sparkly. Very unique, and the formula was wonderful, I needed two easy coats for full coverage, but you might want to double up on top coat to bring out that high shine.

Overall, I am loving these bright cremes and that GORGEOUS blue glitter. How about you? Which one is your favorite? Are any of these going to make it into your stash, if so, which ones can't you live without?

The China Glaze Cirque du Soleil World's Away Collection will be available December 1, 2012. However it has already started making appearances on e-tailers like 8ty8beauty.com and transdesign.com so check out your local beauty supply, you may get lucky!

Butter London - Knackered

Hi everyone!

Monday comes way too quickly, I mean really! If you have a bad case of the Monday's I have something that may cheer you up and turn that frown upside down. This is Butter London Knackered which was part of the Spring/Summer 2012 collection.
When this first came out I saw swatches and thought 'meh'. Well, a few months ago Coterie had a great Butter London deal for bloggers that I was able to take part in, and got this polish for free. Thank goodness for that, because otherwise I would have never purchased, and I would have never been able to experience this.

Wow. Just wow! This is one coat of Knackered layered over a plain black creme. This combination almost reminds me of 'galaxy nails' without all the work and creativity! There is sparse holographic particles in a purple blue duochrome sheer base. I am loving this over black, and I'm thinking it would look great over blue or purple too.

What do you think about Knackered? Any layering combinations that I must try with this?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving! If you celebrate, I hope you have a wonderful day filled with lots of yummy food! Today I just wanted to share briefly a Thanksgiving themed manicure that I created. I used various shades of brown and orange, and then used a dotting tool to do polka dots. Check it out.

When I think of Thanksgiving, I think of brown. Which is why there is so much brown in this look. I can't say that I really like how this turned out- but hey, it is what it is!

To create this I used:
LVX - Koko
China - Glaze Ingrid
Butter London - Shag
OPI - Schnapps Out of It!

That's all for today, again, enjoy today! Tell me, what are you thankful for this year?

Butter London - Posh Bird

Hey hello hi there!

Last week I shared with you Butter London Fishwife that I got at beauty.com during their F&F sale. I mentioned that I picked up Posh Bird as well. So you guessed it, today I am showing you Butter London Posh Bird!
Both Posh Bird and Fishwife were released for New York Fashion Week and are U.S. exclusive shades. For awhile I thought my only option was to order these through the BL website (and their shipping prices are a bit too high for my liking) so imagine my excitement when I got these during the sale for 20% off AND free shipping. *happy dance*

Posh Bird is a smoky grayish purple with heavy heavy silver micro glitter. The finish of this polish reminds me of Butter London Victoriana, with that gorgeous micro glitter which gives the nail subtle sparkle.  Formula was perfect, shown is two effortless coats.

See what I mean? So pretty. I am incredibly happy with Posh Bird and Fishwife, I really couldn't be more pleased. Butter London truly outdid themselves with two gorgeous and unique polishes for NYFW, and have you seen their holiday collection yet? Helloooo gorgeous, goodbye money! :P

What do you think about Posh Bird? Any plans on giving this or Fishwife a happy home in your stash?

Guest Post?

Hey there!

So, life update and question for you all. I will be moving the first week in December, which may put a slight cramp in my regular blogging. Would anyone want to be featured on my blog as a guest blogger? I am looking for about 5-7 guest posts to give me time to move, get settled and get back to my routine.

I am looking for anything nail polish related; it could be your favorite nail polish, a new technique or simple nail art, anything you want to do!

If you are interested, please e-mail me at lynnielawless@gmail.com and we can set something up!!

Thanks in advance! :D

Nicole by OPI CVS Exclusive Collection Swatches & Review

Hey readers!

So, is everyone getting ready for Thanksgiving and of course Black Friday shopping? What are your plans? Are you traveling, staying home, making lunch/dinner, waking up at 3 AM to go BF shopping?! I am really excited for Thanksgiving, but I'm really REALLY excited for Thanksgiving Eve, which I'm sure you know is one of the biggest 'going out' nights of the year. My friends and I always have a good time. Yay!

Now onto the polish! Today I am showing you the new Nicole by OPI CVS Exclusive Collection. This is a 7 piece collection of blues, pinks and purples, some of my favorite colors! This is a really nice set, consisting of 'the new neutrals' which will compliment trends coming up in 2013. Let's get started!

I Sea You and Raise You is a bright periwinkle creme. This is incredible. Of all the blue polishes that I own, I honestly don't have anything quite like this. Plus, the formula was also great, it was nearly opaque in one coat, but I added a second for intensity. This also dried very fast and with a high shine. Love!

Always a Silver Lining is a silvery light blue metallic shimmer. This one is soooo pretty, there are little gold sparkles scattered throughout the polish, making it very delicate looking. Formula was thin, this is three coats.

After applying Always a Silver Lining, I thought it looked vaguely familiar. It reminded me of Sephora by OPI So Totally Enchanted, from the Disney Princess Cinderella collection. Below is a quick comparison of the two.

As you can see below, I was wrong. These really are quite different (yay!)
Silver Lining, Enchanted, Silver Lining, Enchanted

A Pinker Shade of Pale is a light pink frost with a touch of lavender. I love the base color of this, but it's the finish that I could live without. Personally I am just not a huge fan of frosts. That said, this is still pretty- the formula was nice and it's not that brushstrokey. This is two coats.

Feeling Grapeful is a bright orchid purple creme/jelly. This is super juicy and vivid. I really love the color, and I don't own anything like it. You girly girls out there will love this one. This is three coats, and it dries to a high shine.

Don't Overpink It is a squishy bubblegum pink, this is a hybrid jelly/creme, it took three coats for full coverage and dried to a super glossy finish. Very pretty!

Personally Speaking... is a mauve frost. When I first saw this in the bottle I really was not a fan, but honestly I do not hate this. The base color is really interesting. The formula was a bit thick, but it was opaque in two easy coats without being a brushstrokey nightmare.

Marooned in Paradise is a deep reddish maroon with tiny silver and pink shimmer particles. This is a nice color that is universally flattering, and the shimmer is really pretty. This went on somewhat sheer and patchy, but covered nicely in three coats.

So what do you think about the new neutrals we have here? I am personally really excited about this collection and can't wait to wear I Sea You and Raise You and Feeling Grapeful again. They were the stand out winners in this collection for me, but really, there is something for everyone here. So the next time you're at CVS and you spot this collection, be sure to check it out!

These are available at CVS now, and retail for $7.99 each. Which of these are your must haves?!
