The ideal rose nursery bedding should possess several key characteristics: well-draining, moisture-retentive, disease-resistant, and aerated. A mixture of organic matter, inorganic material, and amendments can achieve these qualities.

Organic matter, such as compost, peat moss, or shredded bark, provides essential nutrients and improves the soil's ability to retain moisture and nutrients. Inorganic materials like sand or perlite enhance drainage and aeration, preventing waterlogging and the development of root rot.
